Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen

Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence Memorial Hall is located on Xiangshan Road, a quiet road along the bustling Huaihai Road. It consists of Sun Yat-Sen Cultural Relics Museum and Sun Yat-sen’s former residence. It was the place where Sun Yat-sen resigned as the Grand Marshal of the Navy and Army in June 1918 and returned to Shanghai from Guangzhou to live with his wife.

Entering the iron gate of the memorial hall, the first thing to look at is a statue of Sun Yat-sen, behind the statue is the Sun Yat-sen Museum of Art. Temporary exhibitions related to Sun Yat-sen will be held from time to time in a small room on the left-hand side of the Heritage Museum. After reading the exhibition in the small room, I entered from the door that hangs the “Sun Yat-Sen Cultural Relics Museum”. On the shelf on the first floor, there is some information about Shanghai tourism, which can be taken for free.

After going upstairs, the small room on the right hand side is a film and television room, rolling the TV documentary “Going to Sun Yat-sen”. On the second floor, the items used by Sun Yat-sen and the Chinese tunic suits were collected. The various Chinese and English documents published at that time, as well as the patriots who supported the gift from the north, can see the world as the public.

As you go out, you can see the former residence of Sun Yat-sen. Walking to the right is the lawn in front of the former residence, surrounded by trees and flowers such as holly, camphor, and magnolia. Inside you can visit the two floors. There are kitchen, dining room and living room on the first floor and a bedroom, study and small living room on the second floor. The vast majority of the furnishings in the building are originals and are arranged according to the memories of their wife during their lifetime, as they were in the 1920s and 1930s.

The Xiangshan Road where Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence Memorial Hall is located, including Sinan Road next to it, is very good. The two sides of the road are covered with French paulownia. The small bungalows are hidden in the greenery and you can walk along the road to see the scenery of the old Shanghai area.

On the edge of the former residence is Fuxing Park. It is also a place with memories of the old Shanghai.
