Shanghai West Railway Station (Chinese: 上海西站; pinyin: Shànghai Xī Zhàn) mainly operates high-speed G trains to/from Suzhou, Kunshan, Wuxi, Changzhou, Danyang, Huishan, Hefei, and Nanjing.
Main lines: Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Shanghai-Kunming Railway, and Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Railway.

Taxi
It will take you about 40 yuan and about 30 minutes to get to People’s Square in the heart of downtown Shanghai.
Shanghai Metro
The Metro Line 11 leads directly to the lower level of the station via exit 1. It would take 25 mins and 4 RMB to/from People’s Square in the heart of downtown Shanghai. See Shanghai Metro Map and Guide
In the near future, it will also be serviced by metro lines 15 and 20.
At the Station
It is not a large station and has dual language signage (CN/EN). There are some fast food outlets in the station along with a convenience store. If you need anything like snacks, personal goods etc then it may be easier to buy those before arrival.
Buying Tickets
This is a smaller station with only basic ticket facilities. You can buy tickets for this station, up to 3 days in advance. There are no other tickets services offered such as refund or exchange.

You can also buy tickets online (at trip.com as one example) and then pick the tickets up at the station.
You will be required to show your passport when buying or picking up tickets.
