Chongming Island National Geological Park

Chongming Island is located adjacent to the Yangtze River in Shanghai. It is the third largest island in China, but also the largest estuary alluvial island in the world. The island is a declared geological park where you can see a large number of geological relics and tidal landforms, and explore the island itself.

You can go to Dongtan Wetland Park to watch the sunrise, watch the migratory birds, go to the Xisha Wetland Park to enjoy the sunset, or go to the Dongping National Forest Park to camp with your family, ride a bicycle, and enjoy all kinds of fun away from the city.

There are no high-rise buildings in Chongming Island. There are more villages and fields here, as well as fresh air and refreshing plants.

The northwestern end of Chongming Island has the Xisha Wetland and the Mingzhu Lake Park. The Xisha Wetland is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset. The riverside can be seen on the Yangtze River, while the autumn and winter is a good time to watch the migratory birds.

Close to the Xisha Wetland is Pearl Lake which is a good place for cycling. At the eastern end of the island is the Dongtan Wetland Park, which faces the sea and is a good place to watch the sunrise and is also a bird watching spot.

In the middle of Chongming Island, there is Dongping National Forest Park, where the forest is flourishing, where you can ride bicycles, paintball, barbecue, camping, and it is suitable for family and friends to go out on a picnic.

There are many farmhouses on Chongming Island, such as the former Sanitary Village, Jidong Village, and Gaojiazhuang Ecological Park. You can eat farmhouse food, go fishing, and pick seasonal fruits. You can also travel by bicycle to get around the island, get close to nature in the ride, and admire the environment very well.

Chengqiao Town in the south of Chongming Island is the residence of the county government. It is the most prosperous place on the island. There are famous scenic spots such as Chongming Academy (Chongming Museum) and Pazhou Park. There are also various hotels and restaurants. There are also a variety of resorts and hotels near the island’s major attractions and farmhouse eco-parks. The usual prices are similar to those of other suburbs in Shanghai, but there will be a lot of price increases on weekends and holidays.

It takes about 1-2 days to visit Chongming Island. It takes about 2 hours to drive from the city to the island attractions. Fees are charged individually depending on the attractions you’d like to visit
