Shanghai Railway Station (上海火车站 – pinyin: Shànghǎi Huǒchēzhàn) is the second largest railway station in the city and services the new G and D series trains, and the slower T, K, and Z series trains. You can get to/from most cities in China, including Beijing, Xian, Qingdao, Harbin, Chengdu, Hong Kong etc.
Main lines: Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Shanghai-Kunming Railway, and Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Railway.

Taxi
The Taxi Terminal is located underground just opposite the main entrance to the complex building of the railway station.
It will take you about 20 RMB and 10 minutes to get to People’s Square in the heart of downtown Shanghai.
Shanghai Metro
Three subway lines interchange here – Line 1, 3, 4.
Lines 3 and 4 are located on the north side of the station and line 1 on the south. All stations are interconnected via tunnels.
It is very easy to get to the downtown area. People’s Square via metro line 1 taking 8 mins and costing 3 RMB.

Public Bus
Shanghai Railway Station has several bus stops located on its north side and south side. In most cases the metro is perhaps the recommended choice for simplicity sake yet there are some useful routes to note, with links to their route map being Hongqiao Airport (Bus No.941), Nanpu Bridge (Bus No.64), Pudong International Airport (Airport Line 5). Intercity Coach
The Shanghai Coach Terminal (上海长途汽车客运总站) is located on the west side of the North Square of the Shanghai Railway Station. The station services Weinan, Yubei, Subei, Zhedong, and Jiangyin, Changshu and other cities that may not be reached easily by rail from Shanghai.

The internal layout is a little different to China’s modern railway stations that use a central hall as the waiting area, at Shanghai Railway Station you will find separate waiting rooms and that room number will be printed on your ticket. There are also screens stating which waiting room corresponds to which train.
Trains will begin boarding 15 minutes prior to departure.
Nearby Shanghai Railway Station
- Huanlong Shopping Mall (佳建配件批发中心) a multi-floor mall connected to metro line 1.
- Out exit 3 or metro line you’ll find more shopping, supermarket, and lots of eateries
- Pacific Department Store (嘉里不夜城) – a modern mall with Starbucks, McDonald’s, and fashion shopping. About 10 min walk.
