Much like the nearby Xintiandi, Tianzifang features Shanghai’s unique Shikumen buildings, a product of the French and Western influence. It is also a creative base for many artists.
The area has a very peaceful artsy feel to it, with its stone buildings and alleyways it’s like a maze of teahouses, open-air restaurants, al fresco cafes, galleries, home furnishings to handicrafts.
It is very international in its cuisine offerings having Thai, Japanese, French, American and some Chinese among the many coffee shops and teahouses.
Also, see my map of the French Concession which covers a large area in Shanghai featuring many points of interest.
